Crest: self defense jewellery
Project Type
Self defence jewellery design
Crest is a self-defence ring designed to empower women and enhance their sense of safety in public spaces. Developed through surveys and interviews with women aged 20–60, the project identifies key issues with existing self-defence tools—many are bulky, restricted by law, difficult to use, or can be turned against the user. Crest offers a discreet, wearable, and intuitive alternative.
The ring integrates a detachable whistle and striker, enabling both audible alert and physical defence through natural hand movements. Its ergonomic form allows the wearer to swiftly transition from calling for help to striking in self-protection. Inspired by natural predatory forms, architectural structures, and the strength of talons and claws, Crest balances aggression with elegance, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic subtlety.
Through multiple mock-ups and ergonomic testing, the design was refined for comfort, accessibility, and ease of use under stress. The final prototype demonstrates how the whistle locks securely into the ring’s body and can be detached with a pulling motion.
Crest redefines self-defence design by combining safety, simplicity, and empowerment into an everyday object—allowing women to feel confident and prepared without compromising on comfort or discretion.
